Northern Culture
Community Feast
Weledeh's next community feast will take place May 14, 2025! Please watch the website or the Facebook page and the website for more information.
In past years, this was a great opportunity to showcase some of the amazing talents that our students possess. From fiddling to drumming and from jigging to singing with the Tlicho choir our students are very proud to share their culture with our community. Our Do Edaezhe students were also very proud to serve the elders and our families their meal and to be a part of the excitement. It was an amazing celebration of culture and community.
Hand Games
In past years, teams representing schools from Yellowknife, Behchoko, Ndilo, Northern Alberta, Fort Providence and Kakisa usually participate.
Handgames is a sport played by Dene people. It involves one team hiding objects while other teams try to guess. Sticks are used to keep score. Drums are used to act similar to the heartbeat of the game with lots of movement to fool other teams.
Traditional games includes Dene and Inuit games such as one foot high kick, stick pull, triple jump and wrist hang.
The public is invited to watch!
This year the event will take place TBD!
This is facilitated by Aboriginal Sports Circle.
