Parent Advisory Committee (PAC)
What is PAC?
Parent Advisory Committees (PACs) are volunteer-led organizations that act as a bridge between the school administration and the parent community. At Weledeh Catholic School, PAC serves as the voice for parents and guardians.
Any parent or legal guardian of a student enrolled in Weledeh Catholic School is eligible to join. Most PACs elect a chair, vice-chair, secretary, and treasurer to manage meetings and finances.
Role and Purpose
The primary goal of our PAC is to enhance the educational experience at Weledeh Catholic School by providing a forum for parents to discuss school-related matters. Their responsibilities include:
- Advisory: Providing feedback to the school leadership on school programs, policies, and activities.
- Communication: Sharing information with parents about school initiatives and gathering parent input on important issues.
- Fundraising: Organizing events to raise money for school equipment, field trips, extracurricular activities, and technology upgrades.
- Volunteering: Coordinating parent volunteers for school events and classroom support.
- Advocacy: Supporting the interests of students and helping parents navigate the education system.
Our PAC discussions are focused on broad school-wide issues. They are not a forum for discussing individual student problems or personnel conflicts regarding specific teachers. Those situations should be directed to the school’s administration.
Want to Get Involved?
If you are a parent or legal guardian looking to join or support Weledeh Catholic School's PAC:
- Check our School Website and Social Media: We have a dedicated PAC page with meeting schedules and minutes (which you are on). As well, we frequently post upcoming PAC events on our different social media sites.
- Attend a Meeting: PAC meetings are held monthly. They are open to all parents and legal guardians. You do not need to hold an executive position to participate. Some meetings are virtual while others are hybrid (virtual and in-person). All in-person meetings are held in the Weledeh staffroom. Please check the schedule below for dates, times, and the meeting format.
- Contact the Principal: If you cannot find the information you require online, you can always reach out to our principal, Paul Kelly, via email paul.kelly@ycs.nt.ca or by phone, 867.873.5591.
- Volunteer for Events: Even if you cannot commit to attending monthly meetings, you can still support PAC by volunteering for specific projects like our annual Turkey Dinner or some of our seasonal fundraisers.
